12th Quote of Christmas ~ Challenge

One of the things my friends have asked me to do was post the 12 Quotes of Christmas. I did this for a site I was a DT for last year and I have had some email requests to do it again this year. Unfortunately, I am no longer on the site but I will gladly post them here.

I will post 1 Christmas quote everyday for 12 days. Feel free to use any of them on a card or layout. If you do, please email your creation at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this month's RAK. 12 Quotes means 12 chances at ballots!!

Here is today's quote: "Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful." ~Norman Vincent Peale

Challenge #1 ~ Sketch

I had a great sketch to work with this week at LCOM. My friend Beth Sears created a fun, hand drawn sketch. Here it is:

I created a layout of my lovely twin girls, Emmy and DD. I used the newest MME paper kit called Life Stories. What a fabulous kraft kit.

We had an amazing sponsor this month. Tanya at Let's Capture Our Memories gave us each some Zva Creative Gems to work with. I am in love with these. So lovely and girlie. Head on over to the store and see the great collection: LCOM Store. They look and feel like Prima but are much more cost efficient!!

Challenge: Use this months sketch as the foundation for your next layout and email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this months prize. THEN..... hop on over to the LCOM Sketch Blog and link it there for another chance to win a prize!
Due Date: December 31st

Wanna Win Copic??

I am sorry that I have been absent for a week. My youngest daughter has been suffering with a bladder infection that sneaked into her kidneys. We have been in and out of the hospital and fighting this nasty thing. She is finally on the mend and the worst seems to be over.

Now we can get back on track!!

The first thing I want to tell you is that weScrap has taken over the CCAS Blog and we are now starting to post on it again. I have a great Limited Edition Christmas Kit up for grabs. All you have to do is leave a comment to win. You have until the 31st of December to comment. How easy is that? Just look at this yummy kit:

The second thing I want to share with you is that I am hosting a Card Tag over at weScrap. We will be basing this tag on a sketch and I have my friend Teresa helping me out. We will be racing against eachother. This is a great way to get another Christmas card done!! Hop on over and sign up to play. You can sign up here: Card Tag Sign Ups.
Do you want some incentive to play??? Everyone on the winning team will win a Copic Marker!! These are fab to use on cards. If you've always wanted to one this is a great way to win one. Hurry because the game starts on Monday. :)

I will be posting another challenge in the morning. Look for it and play along for another great prize.

Congrats Mia. Please email me at thynner5@yahoo.ca with your mailing address so that I can send out your amazing Sizzix Texture Boutique!! What a wonderful thing to have sitting in any craft room. It's so cute and charming!

4X6 Photo Challenge

You have probably noticed by now that I use alot of 5x7 pictures on my layouts or wallet sizes. I tend to have shied away from using 4x6 pictures. I am not sure why, but I always have. Looking back at my layouts I see that I have never, really used them.

I challenged myself to create a layout using two 4x6 pictures. Why?? Well, I accidentally printed off two pictures in a 4x6 format and didn't want to waste them.

Here is the resulting layout. I loved the papers I used with this layout. It came with a kit from weScrap. They have been putting out some amazing kits lately.

Thee are my girls. These photos were taken after a big play out in the rain. I had asked them to stay still for a photo but they had a serious case of the giggles. I am thankful that they did because I just loved these pictures.

Challenge: Create a layout using at least two 4x6 photos. Email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for the Sizzix Embossing Machine. I keep staring at this lovely machine and I am dying to send it out to some lucky girl.

Due: November 30th

LCOM Sketch Blog Reveal & Challenge

Wow... we had such an amazing sketch this week too work with. Guylaine made it with lots of lovely layers. I knew as soon as I saw it just what I was going to create.

The following layout I created features Paige and a Gerber Daisy that won her first prize in her age category and second in show at the Agricultural Fair a couple years ago. She was just so proud of herself and I was proud too.

Quote: "Dont hurry, don't worry. You're only here for a short visit. Be sure to stop and smell the flowers." ~ Walter C. Hagen

I created a tag to jounral on. I sprayed it with some Glimmer Mist because I love an excuse to use it! It was a great way to tell the story behind the photo without cramming it on my layout.

You can view the sketch on the Let's Capture These Sketches Blog and see the other amazing creations.
Challenge: Head on over to the LCOM Sketch Blog and use Guylaine's sketch as the foundation of your next layout. Then email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for the Sizzix Embossing Machine. Also, load it in the LCOM Gallery under the Sketch Blog Folder and you could win a prize there as well!!

Challenge #3 ~ Altered Background

Sometimes you get a sheet of paper and you are just not sure what the heck to do with it. The color may be a little off, a little too bright or a little too busy. What do you do? Well, you don't throw it out, you change it!!

I had a sheet of paper that I loved the design of but, the color was wrong for my photos and the layout I had envisioned in my mind. So, I set out to alter it. I grabbed some amazing metallic gold paint by Pebeo that I got at Macpherson Arts and Crafts her in St Marys. I dabbed some on a foam brush and my green paper ended up taking on a completely new look. It now had a lovely gold tone to it. Such a beautiful golden shimmer. I loved working with this paint because it is so smooth to work with and dries quickly. This is a big thing for me as I am a time crunched scrapper and not a very patient one either!!

After I stepped back and looked at it, I decided it needed something more. I grabbed the wonderful Bo Bunny Delilah stamp set that came with the October kit at weScrap and randomly stamped flower images in green ink. I am thrilled with the finished product! Here is Paige encased in gold shimmer and flowers:

The only drawback is that it is hard to take a good photo of a layout with metallic paint. lol
All products on this layout are from the weScrap Kit except for the metallic paint which can be purchased at Macpherson's Arts and Crafts online.
Challenge: I would like to see you alter a piece of patterned paper. You can ink it, sand it, stamp it or paint it. Just make it different some way. Then email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for the wonderful Sizzix prize!
Due: November 30th

Challenge #2 ~ Blooming Petals

I just love to add flowers to my layouts. That is one of the many reasons I love having girls. All these wonderful excuses to use them. BUT, sometimes I can't find one that seems to fit with the layout I am creating.

I received this amazing kit from weScrap to design with. Their November kit was awesome.... totally awesome! All the lovely earthy colors were so beautiful. However, I don't have any ready made flowers to use on my layouts to match. What is a girl to do but make her own!!
Earth Love Kit:

Here is my layout of Emmy using this kit. I made the two flowers on this layout. I loved how they turned out. Creating your own flowers guarantees a great coordinating creation.

Challenge: Create your own coordinating flowers. You can use anything you want to make your flowers. I would like to see at least one homemade flower on your layout or card! Email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for my monthly blog draw. I have a great prize for you this month. I'll post the picture and details later today when I get home from work. :)

My Black Storm

I can't even begin to express my sadness this weekend. My beloved Storm went for a big run earlier this week. When he came home he continued to run and play. In the morning he couldn't get up. I called the vet who came and checked him out. He said that he was in great shape for his age (13 1/2 yrs). He still had great muscle tone, great weight, good eyes and still had all his teeth. He was deaf in one ear though.

He told me that it would appear that he literally ran out of steam and his body needs alot of rest. He told me that even people overdo it when they are having fun and can be bedridden for days, even weeks. I was to give him some time to heal.

It broke my heart to watch him lay on the floor, unable to move or get up. I had to feed him, give him medicine, turn him over and clean up after him. This wasn't my dog anymore, even though he still was all love and smiles.

Then, on Friday morning I noticed something in his eyes. Something had changed. He started to bark and whine. Then came the panting. I just knew that he was in pain and I told myself that I would never be selfish and keep him around if he was ever hurting. I loved him too much for that.

I had kept the girls home because we had been so stressed and sad. We hadn't been getting any sleep. After I called the vet, I called them into the room to tell them that it was time for Storm to go and join Papa in heaven. Papa was calling him home. He needed Storm now.

The vet gave him some morphine and then administered the final shot. The girls and I sat around him, whispering our love and petting him as he left this world for the next.

We are so sad. I walk around the house lost and find myself crying at the silliest things and the weirdest times. Funny how we mourn the loss of a pet as we do a human. I am just as sad and lost as I was when Steve's Dad passed from Cancer.

I have had many dogs come and go throughout my lifetime but he was the most loyal and loving pet I have ever had. The bond I had with him was greater than all others. It is hard to come to terms that he is now gone from my life.

I have to be strong for my girls as their grief matches my own. They have had to deal with alot of grief already in their young years. They keep me focused and strong. I couldn't deal with any of this if it wasn't for them.

We still have Tess and I am grateful for her furry presence. She wanders the house restless and lonely. I am at a loss as to how to deal with her obvious grief as well.

Time will heal the pain. I do know that. It is just so hard right now.

If It Should Be

If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years -
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come, so let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve - it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years -
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Challenge: I would like to hear some wonderful pet stories. I know that alot of you have pets or have had them in your lifetime. Tell a story about a special pet, something they did or a moment your shared. You can blog about it( 2 ballots) and provide a link or you can email your story to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca. You can also just post it below.
Bonus: Use your pet story on a layout for 3 ballots!!
Due Date: Sept 30th
