Challenge #10 ~ Gardens

One of the things I like most about late summer is all the beautiful flowers that are in full bloom. Everywhere we look we can see evidence of these lovely wonders. I am the furthest thing from a gardener therefore I chose Plants for Dummies for my garden.

I love how enthusiastic the girls get every year when it comes to flowers and gardening. They don't get that from me. :)

I completed a layout for Let's Capture These Sketches showing my girls and their favorite flowers in our sparse yet growing garden. This photo was taken a couple years ago when we first planted them. They are still going strong each year. Look at how proud they were about them.

I used the latest sketch posted on the sketch blog for this layout. The lovely Becky created the sketch. Wanna chance to win some Pink Paislee?? Complete any of the posted sketches for the month of August to earn a ballot at the Let's Capture These Sketches Blog!!

Challenge: Create a layout showcasing a flower, a garden or your love of gardens and or gardening. I would like to see a flower somewhere on your layout either in a photo or in an embellishment.

Email it to me for a chance at one of the latest Bo Bunny Lines!! thynner5@yahoo.ca

Due Date: August 31st

Challenge #9 ~ Journal

I set out to alter a composition book for my daughter to have for the first day of school. I picked up the journal for $2.00 and had some paper picked out. Somehow.... I was distracted.... (gasp) and I ended up making myself an altered journal.

We have been going to Camp Labamke this summer and we always have such a great time. There are so many wonderful memories that we have made there. They say "what happens at Labamke, stay at Labamke." Well, I may be sworn to secrecy but I can still journal right?? lol

I used some funky papers and die cuts that came in my Mon Ame Memories DT Kit. Love the October Afternoon papers. How perfect for a vacation journal??

I guess I should get to work on Paige's notebook now. :)
Challenge: I would like to see you alter a book or notepad. It's not as hard as it may seem. Just think of it as a smaller canvas to work with. Use some good, clear glue to adhere your papers to the book.
Due: August 31st

Challenge #8 ~ Life Lessons

My Dad sent me the following list of Life Lessons this morning and I wanted to share it with you. It is a wonderful, touching compilation that really makes sense in so many ways.

This is something we should all read at least once a week
Written By 90 year old Regina Brett.

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone....
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26.. Frame every so-called disaster with these words, 'In five years, will this matter?'
27. Always choose life. 28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
42. The best is yet to come.
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

Challenge: Use one of these Life Lessons on your next layout or card. There are so many to choose from. Email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this month's blog prize.

Our Other Loved Ones & Challenge #5

When someone asks you about your loved ones you automatically think of your child(ren), spouse or parents. I even have some dear friends that I love as well. BUT... how often do we think of our other loved ones?? The ones that drool and are covered with hair. That smell really horrible when they get wet. Who have been know to pee in the house. The ones that bark or whine when they want something. The ones that snuggle us and give us undying love and devotion.

Yeppers... our furry friends. I have two dogs that I just adore. They have a special bond with my girls. When the twins were born, Storm, would sleep beside the crib and let me know when they would wake up. He would literally guard them when company came over. Always standing between the girls and the guests. He still sleeps in their room at night and wakes Emmy up when he gets bored.

He is now 13 1/2 yrs old. The vet said they didn't think he would live past 8 yrs because of his epilepsy. He has shown them how strong and devoted he is. He is so sweet and loving. I fear the day that he decides it's time to move on and join Papa. He has given us so much joy and I am very thankful to have had him in our lives.

I love watching the relationship that has grown through the years, with the girls. He follows them everywhere they go. He mopes around the house if they go to a friends house. Heaven knows he sulks when they sleepover somewhere. The girls are the reason he is still with us and they have keep him young and alive this long.

Here is a layout I made earlier this week, celebrating the relationship with Storm and DD. You can just see how much he adores her.

Challenge: I would like to see you do a layout about a furry loved one. Any type of pet. Someone special that has enriched your life. Then email it to me to earn a ballot for this months draw.

Challenge #4 ~ Bright and Bold

Most of you know that I love a good bright and bold layout. One of my favorite paper lines for this recently has been Basic Grey's Lime Rickey collection. I just had to buy it even though it seemed a little young for my kids. BUT.... when I finally sat down and opened it I was inspired by the bright colors to make a Back to School layout of Paige.

When Paige went into Grade One she was quite nervous, although she didn't let me know with words. Her body language said it all. When I dropped her off and watched her as she waited in line, she gave me the cutest little wave. The look on her face and the tentative wave spoke volumes to me.

She loves school and was full of wacky and wonderful stories when she came home. Every day after that she was always the first one awake and dressed in the morning!! She keeps bugging me even now about the first day of school.

I used a great sketch that was posted at Let's Capture These Memories sketch blog. Here is the layout I created:

BTW.... this layout was chosen to be a part of the Basic Grey Online Gallery. Coolio!!

I got a chance to work with My Little Bit of Whimsy at LCOM and I just loved this handmade button so much!! Check out Steph's amazing blog and store for more goodies!!

Challenge:
I would like to see you brighten up your next layout using some bright and bold colors!!

It's Official.......

It's Official....... The Announcement has been posted at weScrap!

Dear Members of WeScrap!

It is with great pleasure that I announce several exciting changes within the virtual and physical world of WeScrap. As many of you already know, Jessica Acs, President of WeScrap, is following her dream and her (second to scrapbooking of course) passion of pursuing a career in Zoology. Jess has recently moved from Vancouver to L.A., California and has enrolled in a two year program that will get her the proper certifications necessary to be considered for future employment in the field that she loves. During this time, although she will be still very much participating in WeScrap, Jess will not be able to commit to the level of dedication that is required to actually manage and run WeScrap on a day to day basis.

Jess, Brent and I have been working on solutions to this that would best suit the needs of the company and are now very pleased to announce that Allison Cope and Tara Thynne will officially take over Jess’ role effective immediately as Co-President’s of WeScrap! Both have demonstrated their level of commitment, knowledge and expertise in various leadership roles within WeScrap over the years. We have no doubt that together, they will be able to continue our goal of making WeScrap a fun, friendly place, to gather and share our passion for scrapbooking. Over the next few weeks you will begin to see announcements, redirection, new and exciting things take place as these two ladies have already come up with some great ideas on how they will help make us the BEST place to spend your valuable time. Congratulations to Allison and Tara and thank you for your dedication!

The second exciting announcement is that we have finally found our new home for the WeScrap Store! As you were aware, our products purchased from the WeScrap Store were being processed out of Canada adding substantial shipping costs for the majority of our membership. We are pleased to have Sarah Nolan taking on this new Vice President role leading up every aspect of purchasing, storing, fulfilling and shipping of all your favorite items. Located in Michigan, USA, Sarah brings years of experience to us having her own medium size business which includes a fulfillment center in an unrelated product line. Sarah has graciously offered us her time, space, and commitment to making sure that you have what you want, when you want it, at the best possible prices! Sarah also has some neat ideas that she will be exploring with everyone at WeScrap on identifying potential new ways we can collectively purchase ALL of our product through WeScrap at “almost” wholesale pricing through a group buying program. Imagine owning your own scrapbooking store! Congratulations to Sarah and please share your “most wanted” list with her as we start filling up the WeScrap Store!

We appreciate all those who have been involved with this process behind the scenes and we look forward to your continued support as we go through these changes. Each and every member of WeScrap is important in that we really believe that you provide the heartbeat of our business. Someone once said…we are the only scrapbooking community that is filled with ONLY positive energy! Wow! What a compliment! We do believe that our community is has the friendliest people, and under our new leadership team we know that it will only just keep getting better! Thanks everyone,Scott PaulWeScrap!

Yippeee............. I am really excited about this venture and working alongside my Best Friend Ally! Having Sarah run the store and take on the VP position is wonderful. Look for lots of fun and exciting things to come at weScrap!!

Opps... Excuse Me.... & Challenge

Oops... Excuse Me.... I Twittered!!

Yep... I finally decided to join the Twitter crowd. I just love saying the name alone. It's so fun and funky to day. My friend Darlene at Let's Capture Our Memories says that I have become "twitter"pated!!!

Yep... it just may be a disease.

I think it is such an easy way to keep up with eachother without Facebook. My time gets sucked away when I am on Facebook. I still check in there a couple times a week but it's much easier to post a quick sentence and update everyone on my scrappy news.

Speaking of Scrappy News..... There will be a HUGE announcement at weScrap on Friday. Stay tuned. :)

Challenge: If you are on either Facebook or Twitter.... look for me (Tara Thynne/Thynner) and add me as your friend or follow me. You will earn a ballot for doing so. How easy is that??!!
If you are already my friend or have already signed up to follow my "tweets" you also get a ballot.

Due Date: August 31st
Draw Date: Sept 1st

Challenge #1 ~ Sketch

It's time for the first challenge for the month of August. It will be a nice and easy one to start the month off.

I am fortunate to design for Let's Capture These Sketches. We had a great sketch to use recently that was designed by Natalie. I had so much fun using her sketch. I knew right away what I was going to do with it.

Here is the layout I created. It features my youngest daughter Paige and some pictures I took of her as she left for her first day in Grade One. She gave me the sweetest little smile and such a cute wave. Her tentative wave spoke volumes.

Challenge:

Skip on over to the Capture These Sketches Blog and use Natalie's sketch as the foundation of your next layout. Then email your layout to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this month's draw.

BONUS: Sign up to be a follower and receive an extra ballot. If you are already a follower you will also be given a ballot.

Due Date: August 31st
Draw Date: Sept 1st
