Challenge # 10 ~ Numbers

I really wanted to post some holiday pictures and I have been putting off posting any more challenges. I left my camera in Goderich after one of our family Christmas gatherings. Since it is still there I thought I would get right back into the challenge postings. Hopefully some of you have some free time and want to escape into the world of scrapbooking!!
I don't know about all of you but I have gained at least 5 pounds over the last few days. I am so bloated and my pants just don't fit comfortably. It is amazing to me how much food my body can consume over the holidays. There is no such thing as control or healthy eating for me over the holidays!!
Challenge:

In honour of my 5 pound weight gain I would like you to use the number 5 on your next layout or card. It can be in your title, in your journaling or you could just use 5 pictures. I just want to see the number 5 represented on your creation.

Here is a layout I did some time ago for The Scrapping Bug. Me 5 Things:

Please email your creations to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this months prize draw valued at $50.00 in new releases!!
Deadline: December 31st
Draw Date: January 1st

Challenge #9 ~ Blogging

I am so sad today. My daughter brought it to my attention that my birthday is Sunday. I asked her how old I will be and she said "40". Yikes... not yet.

Now I feel the heat of another birthday upon me. Usually they don't bother me. It is just a number after all. I will be 38 on December 28th. It really sucks. Not because I am turning another year older but that my birthday falls three days after Christmas. Every year I have suffered through a quiet birthday. Nobody is ever around to celebrate with. I never had a birthday party. I never got to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey or played cheesy party games. Most of the time I got to pick one of my Christmas presents to save to open on my birthday.

I could tell that my parents felt sorry for me and tried to make my birthday into a big deal. My Dad would let me chose whatever I wanted for my birthday supper. I usually asked for Beef Stroganoff. He used to make an amazing Stroganoff. Yummy!! They would sing Happy Birthday and sometimes I'd get a cake. Then I could unwrap my present wrapped in Christmas paper. I love them for that.

It's better since having children. They get so excited on my birthday and it's infectious. The joy in their faces makes having another birthday not seem so bad!! That is what I am looking forward to the most on Sunday!

Challenge #9:
Here is a simple challenge for you today. I would like you to blog about a favorite birthday memory. It can be about something you did, something you got or somebody else for their birthday. Let me know what made it special for you. You can post a link to your blog below. If you do not have a blog you can email your memory to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca . You will earn a ballot for my big blog draw! Couldn't be any easier.

Deadline: December 31st

Challenge #6 ~ Frame It

It's time for another challenge. I know that we all get busy during the holidays but I still like to sit down and create. It releases the stress of shopping, wrapping and cleaning. I enjoy sitting down at the end of the day, listening to Steve snore on the couch, and bring out my scrappy supplies.

Challenge #6:
I would like to see you frame a photo on your layout. You can use chipboard, metal, paint, decorative scissors or even a digital frame or transparency. You can use whatever inspires you as long as one of your photos are framed.

Here is a layout I did of Olive. She is an adorable puppy that belongs to our friend Jill O'Keefe. Jill is one of the girls favorite lifeguards and they just adore all the O'Keefe girls!! I will need to get an updated photo of Olive. Puppies grow so fast.

Stained Glass Tealight Holders & Challenge # 5

I posted this at Scrapdango for their 12 Gifts of Christmas and I wanted to share it with you gals too. Wanna make some cool tea light holders?? I let my kids take the lead on this craft. We had alot of fun together making these.

1. Clean and dry the drinking bottles. Use your exacto knife to cut around the bottle where it begins to taper, approximately ¾ of the way from the bottom. Discard the top portion.

2. Use your scissors to cut the tissue papers into 1-2 inch squares.

3. Coat the bottle in sections with Podge medium using your foam brush. Adhere tissue paper squares to the podge. Repeat until the bottle is covered. Apply a coat of Podge to the entire bottle. Let dry.

4. Using your glue dots adhere your ribbon around the top of the bottle. You could also add ribbon to the bottom if you wish.
5. Adhere your chipboard shapes to the front using glue dots.

6. If you are making more than one it would be nice to add chipboard or wooden letters to spell Noel or Joy. My girls chose Scenic Route Chipboard Shapes.
7. Apply some Stickles to the chipboard for some added glitter. (It doesn’t show in my photos)
8. Place your battery operated tea light inside and enjoy! **I bought mine for $1.00 each at my local Hardware Store. DO NOT use real tea lights. The holders are made of plastic and will be a fire hazard!!

Enjoy the pretty, gentle glow.

This was a fun project to do with the girls after school. The mess is minimal and the end result really is stunning when it is lit up.
Challenge #5:
I would love to see you make one of these as a gift for someone or for yourself. Email your Stained Glass Tea Light Holder for a ballot for this months Blog Prize valued at $50.00. thynner5@yahoo.ca
Due Date: December 31st
Draw Date: January 1st
** Be sure to scheck out Scrapdango for more amazing projects. My friend Lucy made a super cool Origami Tree Card!!

2. He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.~Roy L. Smith

3. The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.~Burton Hillis

4. May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope;

The spirit of Christmas which is peace;

The heart of Christmas which is love. ~Ada V. Hendricks

10. Christmas! The very word brings joy to our hearts. Challenge #3 ~ The Recipe

I was chatting with the gals at Creative Scrappers about their favorite recipes and about cooking. It made me think about this amazing recipe my friend Kate, from CCAS, gave me. I still make them every Christmas with my girls and they don't last long. I would like to share the recipe with you.

Peanut Butter Tassies:

1/2 Cup brown sugar
1/2 Cup white sugar
1/2 Cup smooth peanut butter
1 egg
1/2 Cup shortening or butter
Pinch salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 Cups flour
Miniature peanut butter cups
candy Tassie or mini-muffin sized paper cups

Yield: 24-36 pieces
Cooking time: 7-8 mins

Preheat oven to: 400 degrees

Line pan with paper cups.
Unwrap 24-36 peanut butter cups and set aside.Cream together peanut butter, sugar, egg, vanilla and shortening.
Add salt, flour and soda. This will be a very stiff dough.Drop small balls of dough (size of a walnut ) into pans.
Bake for 7-8 minutes until very light brown on top.Remove from oven and press unwrapped peanut butter cup

Challenge #7 ~ Love

I love a good word challenge. Ally and I post a word every Wednesday on the CCAS Blog as a challenge. It is so much fun to do and to use on a layout.

My word for this challenge is: Love

1 : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties
2: affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests
3: an assurance of love
4: warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion
3 a: the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration

I used this word on a layout of Paige and her love of Webkinz. I'll post it in the morning. I am afraid the lighting isn't great for taking a picture right now. :)

My challenge is for you to use this word on your next layout or card. Please email it to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn your ballot for my $50.00 Blog Prize Draw.

Let it Snow.... ~ Challenge #6

We sure got dumped on with snow last night. It was so magical waking up this morning and looking out the window. It looked like a magic snow globe. Big fluffy snowflakes falling down over a pristine, untouched yard. Lovely.
Here is what our house and lane way looked in the morning:

By the time I fetched my camera, the kids were running through the yard with the dogs. They were all laughing and having a grand time. They must have stayed out there for well over an hour.

They got it and fired up the hairdryer to dry the dogs. How sweet. My bathroom now smells of a lovely combination of wet dog and burn hair. NICE!!??

We just sat down to relax when we heard the tractor pull up. Steve had gone to work to borrow the tractor to clean out our driveway. The girls hopped up and got their snowsuits back on and waited while Steve built them their mountain. Every year he builds this mountain of snow on the front lawn. Last year it was so high that it reached all the way up to the girls bedroom window. If it had been a door there they could have walked out and been on top of it.

They had lots of fun with Steve and the tractor. He let them sit in the bucket and raised them up and down. The best part was when he raised them a little, went over to the mountain and tipped the bucket. They slipped out of and onto the mountain. You could probably hear the fits of laughter all over Ontario. Maybe even as far as BC.....

Challenge #5:
I know that it's not winter for all my blog readers but for those of you that have winter.... I would like to see you post a snow picture on your blog. If you do not have any snow photos you can blog about what you love about it. I know some of you probably have never even seen snow. You can blog about that as well.
Just add a link to your blog or email me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca
You will earn a ballot for the $50.00 CHA Blog Draw!!
Bonus: Do a layout featuring snow as the subject and earn an additional ballot! Email me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca .

Technique Corner ~ Challenge # 5

I have a fun technique to share with you today. I happen to have found something that is really fun and easy to do. It involves using a mask. Yes… todays lesson is all about using masks.

Heidi Swapp has cornered the market on masks. She has some amazing designs out there right now. I love them all. I think I may even have them all too. One of my favorites is the crown mask. I can’t believe I have had it and never used it until now.

So… what the heck is a mask anyways? It is a repositionable template that works the opposite of a stencil by giving you the negative image. It has a sticky surface that will cling and stay in place once you have positioned it. You can use any medium on it. Everything from paint, ink and chalk. I have used them all and I like the effect they each bring. When you use paint you get a great even, strong coverage. With ink you also get great coverage. When you use chalk you can easily blend colors and get a softer look.

Once you have chosen your mask and your medium you need to chose your background paper. Position your mask on your paper and apply your paint, ink or chalk over the mask. Once you’re satisfied with the result, gently peel the mask away. You are left with a beautiful negative image!! Then, just wipe the mask clean. They are completely reusable!!

I used white paint with a little Ranger Crystal Stickles on the following layout of DD. I loved the overall effect.

You can also make your own masks by using stickers. This is very easy to do. Just place them on your layout, paint or ink and once it is dry, just lift the stickers off.
Have fun and play around with different masks and mediums!!

Challenge #4:
My challenge for you today is to use a mask on your next project. You don't have to use paint, ink or chalk, you can also just trace an outline of the image. I have done this before as well. If you don't have a mask use stickers as your mask. The possibilites are endless!
Email your layout to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot into this month's $50.00 Blog Rak draw.
Remember you are creating to win the following:
October Afternoon Tab Book
Pink Paislee Pixie Stixs
Glimmer Mist
Crate Paper Prudence Paper Line - all of it.
Crate Paper Rub ons
Mambi Rhinestones/Gems

Birthday Wishes ~ Challenge #4

I still find it hard to believe that my Dad turns 61 years old tomorrow. I am so lucky to have him as my Dad. We have always been close. I look back over the years and find that we are closer now than ever before. Is it because of the cancer and almost losing him? Or is just that we are both older and wiser.

I was adopted by my parents at 4 days old. It was the best day of my life. I was fortunate to be raised by two loving people who adore me as much I do them.

My Dad is away on a business trip to Bermuda right now. He will not be around for his birthday but I wanted him to know how much I love him and how lucky I feel each and every day to have him as my Dad. I am grateful to God for letting him stay with me and my family a little bit longer.

Challenge #3 ~ Cover It

I am a little behind right now. I have been battling strep throat and an ear infection and my Mom is quite ill as well. I will get caught up.... starting with another blog challenge!

This challenge entails covering up your chipboard! I admit that I love to pull out the paint, chalk or inks to cover my chipboard with. I also like to stamp and stickle my hipboard as well.

I recieved an amazing kit from Scrapdango an in it was some funky Maya Road tree shaped chipboard. Man.... was I ever excited about them.

I traced the top tree onto some of the green pattered paper from the Bella Blvd line. Yummy!! I then adhered it to my chipboard. On the base I used some awesome Ranger Crackle Paint. It gave the tree trunk a realistic look. I then grabbed a Maya Road bird that came with the kit and inked it with two diferent colors. I added a cute Kaiser Kraft pearl for the eye.

Here is my finished layout:

So... look through your stash of chipboard and cover it up. Then... place it on a layout. Email your layout to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot into this month's $50.00 Blog Rak draw. Remember you are creating to win the following:
October Afternoon Tab Book
Pink Paislee Pixie Stixs
Glimmer Mist
Crate Paper Prudence Paper Line
Crate Paper Rub ons
Mambi Rhinestones/Gems

I'll post another challenge on Wednesday!

My First Blog Tag!!

Yippee... someone wants to play tag with me. Ally has tagged me for my very first blog tag.

Share SEVEN facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird...just 7 facts. :)

Tag 7 people at the end of your post and make sure to let them know they've been tagged! Make sure to provide a link to the person who tagged you.

Hmmm... I wonder if I can even come up with seven things?

1. I grew up an army brat and travelled the world as a child. I am still a sucker for a man in uniform!!

2. I am double jointed and used to have so much fun freaking my friends out at school.

3. I used to LOVE peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches. I am shocked that my children think that's gross!

4. My girls, Emmy & DD won a big modelling contest and were asked to sign on with three big modelling companies. We just couldn't commit and make the commute. I used to model when I lived in the city too.

5. I was featured on Tiny Talent Time when I was younger. Yep... I was a tiny dancer! I was even asked to try out for the National Ballet of Canada. That was when I admitted to myself that I hate ballet! Boring!!

6. I LOVE getting my feet rubbed. Nothing is more relaxing. I get reflexology treatments from my dear friend Joey. Simply heavenly!

7. I used to take karate and I have my orange belt. I was just about to get my red when we moved to a new town that didn't have any karate instructors. I used to love it!

So now you know Seven random secrets about me .... I bet these Seven ladies will share theirs with you! I tag.....................

Nancy Jones
Heather
Donna Lewis
Ginni G
Heather Lough

Gina

Have fun girls! I can't wait to learn all your secrets. :)
