Challenge # 3 ~ LCOM Sketch Reveal

Who doesn't love a great sketch?? I know that I do. That's why I am at Let's Capture These Sketches!!

This week the sketch was designed by Sara Slade. She has been on both the sketch team and the layout team. Here is the sketch we had to work with this week:

I just love how fresh and funky it is. I created the following layout based on this great sketch:

It features Paige kneeling in a huge hole we dug at the beach in Port Elgin. It was such a wonderful day for a beach visit with family.

I used a Crafter's Workshop Template and painted over it with a sponge brush and some yummy teal paint. I just love using templates. They add so much cool, funky details to any layout or card! Here is a close up:

Challenge: Now that the cooler weather is upon us here in Canada and the US I was thinking it would be nice to feel the warmth of a summer layout. Bring out the brights and create a layout. Here is a layout I did when I was on my scrapbooking retreat at Unique:

It isn't very often that we have our photo taken as a family. I am usually the one behind the camera. This lovely photo was taken at our Great Grandma's 85th birthday party in Wingham. It was such a wonderful day spent with family that we don't get a chance to see very often.

Scrapbook & Cards Today Crop and Create

I have been asked to help out at this amazing event in Markham!! Here are the details:

We are thrilled to announce that the second location for Crop & Create has now been announced! Crop & Create will be held in Markham, Ontario, Canada on January 13 & 14 at the beautiful Hilton Suites hotel located centrally in Markham at Warden & Hwy. 7. We have space for 150 in probably one of the most beautiful facilities we have seen yet! Each attendee will have:

a stunning crop room from Friday at 4:00 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to midnight (24 hours of crop time!!!)
a delicious sweet table on Friday night (yes, we did some sampling!)
tea and coffee on Saturday morning
a full gourmet sandwich buffet on Saturday
another sweet table on Saturday night (just to keep us going to the midnight hour!)

Elizabeth Taylor Challenge

One of the movie industries most graceful, talented and beautiful women passed away today. I was always in awe of her as a women and as an actress. If you have ever watched a movie with Elizabeth in it.... you were enchanted. My first movie I saw and loved was "National Velvet". Who could forget the passion between her and Richard Burton in "Cleopatra". They burned the screen up.
I also adored her for her humanitarian work. She was an AIDS Advocate long before anyone else would step up. She was strong and steadfast.

Butterfly Challenge

Baubles and Frills Challenge

I just love anything frilly and shiny. I am a total girl in that way. Steve jokes that I was born in the wrong era because I love anything vintage.

I did the following layout for weScrap using thier latest kit called "Her Majesty".

I loved all the extra's that came with the kit. There were some baubles, tulle and some lovely filmstrip. I gathered the tulle and placed it at the bottom of my photo to act as a frame. I added the baubles using brads to my filmstrip. I also had some fabric laying around and made a funky fabric flower!

FYI.... if you purchase this kit you should be aware that the rubons are fussy so please be careful and that you will need extra adhesive for your letter stickers.

Challenge: Doillies seem to be all the rage right now. I like to use mine as a mask and paint or mist over them. It leaves a lovely lace detail on your page. I also save the colored piece to use on another layout. I have seen some fun lace doilie stamps out now as well. I get mine from the $store and who can resist the Prima or Kaiser Kraft doilies??

I go through spurts in scrapbooking. Both in what I buy and what I use. Have you noticed you do that as well?

Some that I have bought at a scrapbook store to coordinate with certain lines, some from flea markets and even some special ones I claimed after my Grandmother passed away. There was a time when I used buttons on all my layouts. I loved to see how many buttons I could fit on a page. LOL

Brighten Up Already

When I look out my window all I see is white and grey. It has been a long and hard winter here in Ontario. The snowmobilers and the skiers have been having a blast but since I don't do any outdoor winter activities...... I have been feeling BLAH!

So.... I wanted to do a layout to brighten my mood. Lots of bold and bright colors!! Something to remind me that the days ahead will soon be full of color once again!

A New Year, A New Beginning

I have been in limbo for the last couple months. I have had three people who I love and adored pass away just weeks apart. I have also been trying to help my Mom get her health back on track after her heart attack and stroke. I was just so sad and feeling sorry for my self. In turn, I neglected my blog and all my wonderful online friends who truly have become my lifeline.

I am in the process of updating my blog. Time to jazz it up a little. I will have some new challenges up and running, starting this week.

I have a great prize up for grabs too. I will post the details on this tomorrow.

I am BACK to Play with everyone. I hope to continue to inspire you to create wonderful scrapbook pages and cards.

I have taken the last two months to reflect on my life and what it means to me. having to deal with the death of a loved one is never easy, especially when they are so close together. I have made my mantra this year..... LIVE LIFE!! I am not going to sit back and feel sorry for myself anymore. I am going to live my life, play hard and laugh every day, even if it's just at myself.

Who doesn't love Halloween??

This year was our first Halloween at our new home. We have been looking forward to it for weeks now. All the decorations were hung and set to go, loaded new batteries in the flasing lights and scary zombie dude, costumes set and hung up to wear and candy bought and hidden.

We didn't know what to expect being at a new neighborhood for Halloween so I made sure to buy lots of chocolate and candy. I wanted to make a great impression with the neighbors. Well..... I wish I knew that I would be stuck with almost ALL my candy at the end of the night. We had two kids at our house all night long and they were family!! Holy Hanna!!

I was complaining about it today at the post office and they someone told me it was because I lived in the North Ward now and people are seen as being ritzy and snooty. What.... I am not either of those. BUT... in retrospect.... most of thr homes in my neighborhood had thier lights turned off. In fact only two houses on my entire street had even decorated for Halloween. There aren't alot of kids in my neighborhood either. so, I guess it makes sense. I was just so disappointeed. One of my favorite things is to see all the little ones dressed in their costumes!!

And here’s my Fall Inspired project that I’d like to share with you….

One of my favorite things about Autumn is how the leaves on the trees change colors and fall to the ground. The sounds of the girls laughter as they play amongst the leaves, throwing them in the air.

Here is a layout I created with a tree element. I wanted to make a homemade tree to put on my page. I had this fun picture of Emmy and DD in the leaves. I used this as my inspiration. I grabbed some Co-ordinations paper and sanded it to reveal the tree trunk texture. Next I grabbed some leaves stamps and stamped some leaves on some green paper. I also had a Prima Flower set and cut off the leaves. I popped them up on my tree. I added some glitter to a few of the leaves but, unfortunately, it doesn't show up in this picture.

The weather has sure changed around here quickly. The leaves barely changed color and instead literally died and fell to the ground. I missed the bright colors that I have seen in previous years.
In it's place we had had rain and lots of it!!! The days and weeks around St Marys have been grey and overcast. Dampness has set in and the days really do seem so much shorter when you don't see the sun.
Let's brighten things up with a layout!! I made the following layout full of bright, cheery goodness. I grabbed a few colorful pictures of Paige and built my layout from there.

I don't know about you but I love to save my packages and reuse them later on a layout or card. Prima just keeps making such lovely and beautiful packages. I got these pretty roses from Prima and they came in a transparent package featuring some white doilies. Yummy... so sweet!!

I used some Crate Restoration paper that I bought online from Let's Capture These Memories, grabbed out some stamps and paint and made this layout. I love how the doilies add such a nice visual interest to my page.

I love it when I come across and old photograph and become inspired to create a layout. I found this old picture of my Dad with my Gran that was taken when he was a young boy. It is such a sweet, loving photograph and it just begged to be scrapped.

If anyone was lucky enough to scoop up the Chatterbox papers before they were discontinued... they make a perfect backdrop for your heritage or vintage layouts.

I have to tell you how happy I was to hear that Melody Ross is still creating lovely paper lines!!

Challenge #2 ~ Gate Fold Card

I made this tutorial for the weScrap World Cardmaking Day and wanted to share it with you guys too:

Hello card makers!! I am going to briefly explain to you how to make a Gate Fold Card.

Gather up your supplies.
Cardstock
patterend paper
ribbon
sentiment
score tool/bone folder
Pop Up foam dots

1. start by cutting your cardstock 4 1/4 by 8 1/2. You are going to make a square card.
2. Score at 2 inches in from both sides. I did mine slightly over as my cutter wasn't cutting straight. grrr..

3. Fold flaps in.

4. Make some outside panels. My pink cardstock measures 2x4 inches and the pattered paper measures 3 3/4x1 3/4. Make a panel for the inside of your card measuring 4x4 inches. Adhere your panels.

5. Tie a piece of ribbon to the right side of your card.

6. Make your sentiment or embellishment and use pop up foam dots applied to the let=ft side only.

7. Put into place on the left side of your card. It should hang over the edge to reach the other side of the card.

8. I added some letter stickesr for my sentiment.

Viola!! My finished card:

[B]TIP:[/B] Don't forget to include the inside of the card when you design it. It just makes it look prettier and finishes off the card. It's nice to dress up your envelope too with matching papers or stamped images.
You can also adapt this to make a regular sized card by starting off with a 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 base.

I decided to cluster my flowers together and combined some homemade ones with Prima and Sasafrass Lass. I hand cut some felt flowers and made a lace ribbon rosette.

Scrapfest Oshawa

I am sooooo excited because I can confirm that I will be at Scrapfest in Oshawa. I had received a wonderful email from Lisa asking me to come back because my pal Vicki wants me to TA with her for the weekend!! We had sooooo much fun together and shared the same bags under our eyes when the weekend was over.
I will be seeing alot of my scrappy friends, Kimber, Kelly, my pals at Scrapbook and Cards Today, my weScrap girls and many more. I will have to try and keep Dorrie under control. My friend Michele and I will be heading out first thing Friday to help Lisa and the gang set up.

Challenge #5: The Mask

One of the most fun techniques in scrapbooking happens to be masking!! I love any excuse to grab out my paints and mists. I love the results I get and even the mess I tend to make too.

Here is a layout I did recently where I used a Tattered Angels Glimmer Screen and three different shades of Glimmer Mist. It features a photo of my new sister and I taken at the wedding this summer.

I made a handmade tissue paper floral element and decided to thread some ribbon through my border trim. I had lots of fun making this layout.

I used my iTeam kit from weScrap for last month. There are still a few kits left so head on over to get yours today!

Challenge: Use a mask on your page or card. You can literally use anything as a mask these days. Leftover alphas, packaging laying around the house, mesh, tape even punched out shapes. get creative and have fun!

Back to School

We always love this time of year at our house. The girls and I had so much fun this summer playing, swimming and hanging out. I loved having the summer off to be with them. But... I think they were getting bored of me and wanted to see all their friends that aren't around during the summer. I believe we were all ready for the set routine that only school can bring.

We spent one last night staying up and watched a movie. I painted their nails as G-Force played in the background. Steve snoozed on the couch. and the dog lay beside Emmy on the floor. Then they went to bed dreaming of school.

When I took Paige to her school, she literally ran away from me to be with her friends. Sigh... they grow up too fast. Her teacher came up to me and said that he felt he won the lottery because He will now have taught all three of my girls and he just adores them all. Aww.... that's so sweet.

Challenge #2 ~ The List

One of the things I love to do is make lists. I am embarrassed to admit that I have a tendency to be somewhat forgetful therefor I make list out of necessity. I always have a pen and paper in my purse and I praise Apple everyday for inventing the iPhone!!

This time I made a list to put on my layout of Paige. I made a short list of 10 Things that I love about her. Of course I could easily have made the list go on forever!! She is such a joy to be around.

Here is the layout:

I had some lovely prima lace ribbon laying around and I used it to make a floral embellishment. I punched out a cardstock circle and added some liquid adhesive. I then literally just wound it around itself and placed it on the glue. I then added a stunning Websters Pages Sparkler that came with the kit. You get an entire package of these beauties in the kit! I also ran some felt through my Sizzix to make some felt flowers.

I used the lovely September Kit from weScrap called Urban Skies. It has such a soft color pallet to work with. Not only is it such a lovely kit but the prices on their kits are always close to cost!! The entire kit is $27.99.

LCOM Sketch # 52

Here is the layout I created using this fun sketch. I used some pictures of my brother and my new sister on that were taken on their wedding day. I used some yummy Glimmer Mist and a funky Butterfly mask.

Paige found a couple great feathers at the pond where the wedding pictures were taken and I saved them in my purse. I used one of them on this layout. Thanks Paige!

Fly to the Angels

A dear family friend passed away suddenly last Friday evening. He was driving home with his wife after a visit with my brother when he was struck by a drunk driver. He and his wife were thrown from the motorcycle and he passed away. She was rushed to a London hospital to be treated for her injuries.
The driver fled the scene but was captured shortly after. This was his second offence, this one ended in the death of my dear friend, Jimmy.
The girls have shed some tears for a dear man they adored. I have also shed many tears. He leaves behind four great boys who will be lost without him.He will be treasured in many hearts for years to come.
He was my brothers best friend and stood up with us for the wedding. He always had a funny story to tell and a smile on his face that could light up a room. We will miss him for years to come.

Challenge #5 ~ Make your Own Embellishment

Hey girls.... are you sick of spending so much money on embellishments to go with your pages and cards?? I know that with school starting I have to focus my money on other things right now.
So.. what can we do??? Why... we make our own embellishments of course!!

I made the following triangle banner out of denim from an old skirt that Paige used to wear. I grabbed my sewing needle and after stabbing myself a few times.... I had made the following handmade embellishment:

Here is how I did it:

Supply List:
Fabric (I used denim from an old skirt of Paige's that no longer fit)
Batting
Needle, thread or sewing machine
Scissors
Small Prima Flowers or other small embellishment of your choice

1. Make a triangle shape or print one off of the internet. There are some great templates available. You can even google triangle clipart images. I just made one freehand at the aproximate size I wanted. Then I traced it on the backside of the fabric. I wanted 4 triangles therefore I traced 8 onto my fabric. Cut your shapes out.
TIP: If you are planning to make a freehand triangle then make sure you trace 4 then flip your triangle shape over and trace 4 more. You need to do this to ensure your pieces will line up perfectly. I also labeled mine "A" and "B" to be sure. If you don't do this this just trim around the edges of your triangles to make them even.

2. Do the same with your batting. Make them just slightly smaller to fit inside your other triangle. The batting just adds dimension to your triangle banner. I love things to be lumpy, bumpy and layered on my pages.

3. Layer your denim and batting pieces together. I used a pin to keep it in place. It will shift and move as you sew otherwise. I chose to sew by hand as I still don'tknow how to work my sewing machine yet. After stabbing myself yesterday I think I may take a course on how to use my machine. :)

I actually tried to stamp some cute little sayings onto my tiangle but they were so small that it just looked like black ink smudges. So....

TIP: If you ever mess up in scrapbooking just try and cover it up with something else. I had some Prima Fairytale Flowers that happened to look exactly like the flowers in my photos of Paige.

I also made a chipboard circle embellishment to place on this page. Here is what I did:

Supplies: Chipboard (The back of a large notepad)
Ranger Crackle Paint in Faded Denim
SEI Chalk in in Denim
Scissors or craft knife

1.I traced a circle shape onto my thin chipboard and cut it out with my fine tip scissors.
2. I covered in generously with the Ranger Crackle Paint. Make sure you glob it on and the thicker it is the more crackle detail you will see. Allow it to dry.
3. I rubbed the chalk ink over it to show the crackle details. and added it to my page.

I created the following layout for weScrap Sketchy Saturday. Each Saturday the girls and I post a sketch for you inspire you. You can combine it with an iTeam challenge for a chance to win a weScrap kit!!

The following layout was done using some fun pictures my hubby took of me. We had to get all dolled up for my brothers wedding. The girls and I were standing up in the wedding and had so much fun getting prettied up! we had our hair, makeup and nails done. The final touch was the dresses. It is amazing how a pretty dress can transform how you feel!

Here is one of my favorite pictures Steve took. It is of the girls and I just before heding out in the Limo. I just love my girls.

I was feeling "sexy" in my dress and my hot pink shoes. I hammed it up for a few pictures with Steve. So much fun! You need to get a little silly sometimes in front of the camera.
